Saturday October 25th

Halloween is at hand! Today was a relaxing family day, which we ended by carving a jack-o-lantern and David sleeping in the trailer (in our front yard) with Nathan. In between, I managed to get up and around. David's uncle and his family came for a visit. My brother Dave took Nathan for a bike ride. I played a game with David and Jonny. I put together a couple of leftovers to make a stew for dinner.

As my nausea and mouth sores improve, I have noticed a few new side effects: my red blood count is low, so my face and lips look a bit pale. This makes me short of breath whenever I stand up and move around a lot. Also, my hands and feet are getting a bit sore, a side effect of the chemo which damages the tiny nerve endings in hands and feet. But overall, I can't complain, as I felt better today than I have been in a week and a half.

I'm looking forward to reading my article in the Daily Herald tomorrow. If anyone nearby has a copy, could you drop it off on our porch? Ashley said she would bring me by some more copies and some photos on Monday. I am going to try hard to attend at least part of Sacrament meeting tomorrow. I've missed going to church.

It was great to talk to you last night -- just terrific you see some improvement!

Just a little humor to add to the funny things I say -- Len and I had an exciting 3 hour poll worker training for the up-coming election on Friday afternoon (very technical--Len's favorite thing to do :(! To top off the afternoon I said "if we hurry we can get you into the clinic for your flu shot--I need to pick up Emilee's perscription in the same building and we can get all our birds stoned at once."

Emilee, Thank you for sharing your experience. I just read the article in the Daily Herald. I was a volunteer at the recent Breast Cancer walk in SLC and I'm amazed by the courage you and others possess. I would like to offer you a standby plane ticket on Jetblue airways, if it is something your mother or other family member could utilize. I will check back on your blog or if there is an email that I can reach you by, just let me know. I hope you have a beautiful Sunday with your family.

Hi Emi: Wow, front page coverage! The pictures were great as well as the article. From what I understand the articles continue for a few more days -- will they be about you or other cancer patients? It really was quite powerful to read about your's and David's struggles. I am going out of town for three weeks but I can still pass on any of the movies I have if you still want them. Let me know. Love, Linda

Hi Emilee,

I just read the article in the Herald. Yours is a story I've often seen in working in Cancer Clinical Trials. I quit my job in clinical trials a little over a year ago because of my own health issues, but I know of the difficulties you are facing with your health issues. I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. I felt your spirit as I read your words today. Your care for your husband and sons is so touching.

With my own health issues I have learned many things since I was young. First that Heavenly Father needs strong sons and daughters. You are one of His strong and courageous daughters. Sickness and trials are so tough to endure, but sometimes I think it is to show other people how to be faithful, stoic and steadfast in the face of the fiercest winds.

Your husband and sons will forever have their lives changed because of the example you are. My own mother was sick with MS and eventually passed away from its symptoms. When I speak of my mom I feel so humble because of the example she left me. I had an angel mother and you are one too.

I don't really know what to say, but I wanted you to know that you have touched many people out there that you don't even know. I know that you are a beloved daughter of God and that the Holy Spirit will comfort you. I know that I don't know you personally, but I have known other women who courageously stand steadfast through this trial.

I loved the people I was able to serve in my occupation. I only want the best for them. I wish for you the best as well.

I would love to help you and your family if I can. I have a blog as well and you can communicate your needs and concerns there if you choose.

The spirit is with you Emilee...know that is true.

You may want to check out a site and alternate treatment to cancer.
www.cancure.org/hoxsey_clinic.htm
I have known 2 people now that have gone to this clinic in Mexico and have been cleared of their cancer. Just a heads up. Look into it and check it out.
Just a thought.

Emilee- I am sure that Mr. Mills is well meaning, but the Hoxley treatment has been extensivly reviewed here:

Hi Emilee,
I too read your article in the Daily Herald. What an inspiration you are! I am a Breast Cancer Survivor. It will be 12 years in January that I was diagnosed. I was 42 when I was diagosed. Just a few years older than you are now. Over the past 11 years I have read many stories of women who have survived. I have also read many "Obituaries" of women who haven't. Young mothers with young children....I asked myself once, "Why"? Why does Heavenly Father allow some to survive and others He takes home. I discovered the answer and know it is true: Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us, but His plans are also different for each of us. I know with all my heart that peace will come into our lives, when and only when we accept His will for us. I would love to chat with you in person. I live in Highland, so we are close.
