Friday October 24th

Today I was really touched by the comments, specifically the song and the scripture, from Laurie and Becky. Sometimes I wonder why we have to suffer such trials, but often I believe that we learn compassion for others, empathy, humility, faith and many other good qualities that help prepare us to live with God again. I certainly don't feel like an inspiration to anybody, as we are all doing our best to deal with the challenges we have in life. I do feel much gratitude:

Today I am grateful that my body continues to improve, and my nausea and pain and swelling decrease. I am grateful that my children are playing at their friends' houses. I am grateful that my husband's job is bringing in some income, enough to meet our basic needs. I am grateful for the beautiful weather, even if I have to enjoy it from my window. I am grateful for many more things, and I could go on, but that list is enough for today.

Laurie's pick of inspiring hymns has always been one of my favorites.

Although it was penned by the Irish Poet Thomas Moore (1779-1852), I've always associated it with Sir Thomas More (1478-1535), the very religiously devout English scholar & statesman who served at the court of Henry VIII. Because Thomas More would not recognize Henry to be superior to God, Henry did all kinds of cruel things to More including keeping in a horrible prison cell where More languished for 3 years never giving up his faith in God & Jesus Christ. Henry tried his best to break Thomas More but finally in utter frustration had him beheaded. More was later canonized as a saint and he is to this day recognized as one of the world's most purely good persons. The movie "Man for All Season" chronicled More's life.

I discovered numerous melodies that match the words of the hymn:

You might take special note of the setting where the last singing occurs - especially who is singing and who is in the audience.

ENJOY!

Emily,
I am glad that you found something touching in the thoughts I shared. I have not missed a post from you. I check often, and wait to see how you are doing. It made me cry the day your mom and dad had to leave because I knew how badly they wanted to be at your side to strengthen, comfort, and support you, and I know how much you want to be independent and strong, but to have them near too.

You are an inspiration to all of us who have not faced this same trial, or even the trials in our own lives with such grace, gratitiude, and peace.

Even before such trials came into your life, you were an inspiration in the way you lived your life close to the Lord and with a perfect brightness of hope.

I have thought much about the blessings you enjoyed before we got old and boring :) I hope your parents don't talke offense to that little snicker, but my kids think I'm old an boring. You have been blessed to go and do some wonderful things that many of us never will. Your greatest blessings have been your husband and children though, and it is neat to hear how they are sustained by your faith too.

It is also inspirational to see how your family, friends, and ward family have pulled together to bring many small miracles into your daily life. I hope you feel the love of our Heavenly Father through their hands.

So, thanks again for sharing. I wish you every promised blessing for being the faithful daughter of God that you are. I wish you laughter and joy in some way every day too. Laughter is good medicine, but joy is the true Balm of Gilead. My you treasure up those things that are truly joyful.

LUV and happiness to you, every day, my friend~

I was at a Lodi Stake R.S. event today, and at the luncheon tables they had the following poem:

The Blessing of "NO"

I asked God to take away my pride.
God said "No."
"It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up."
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said "No."
"Her spirit was whole, her body was only temporary."
I asked God to grand me patience.
God said "No."
"Patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn't granted. It is earned."
I asked God to give me happiness.
God said "No."
"I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you."
I asked God to spare me pain.
God said "No."
"Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me."
I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said "No."
"You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful."
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.
God said "No."
"I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things."
I asked God to help me LOVE others as much as He loves me.
God said..."Ahh, finally you have the idea!"

Thanks again to all of you for showing your love to my beautiful daughter!
