Obituary

Lovingly looking back at her dear husband and children, Emilee Dolberg Ellis passed from this life on March 4, 2009 after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. With great faith and brightness of hope she was encircled with the love of Heavenly Father and loved ones as she was greeted in the hereafter forever free of her suffering.

Emilee was born on January 15, 1972, in Davis, California. She married David L. Ellis in the Oakland, California LDS Temple in 1992. Always bright and inquisitive she was an excellent student, and was an exchange student in Germany. She got only A grades in high school and was co--valedictorian of her class at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA where she received her AA Degree. She received BA and MA degrees in German at Brigham Young University, teaching German as a grad student. Emilee was a gifted pianist and singer and shared her talents as an accompanist for choirs in her church as well as a teacher of piano. Emilee most recently worked with students at her children’s school, The Lincoln Academy, in Cedar Hills as a Music Specialist.

Emilee was a world traveler, and with her parents, husband and children, saw Europe, China, Hong Kong, Alaska and traveled across the U.S. Just a month ago she enjoyed a trip with her family to San Diego. She was an avid reader and has always loved literature and languages. She enjoyed keeping a journal and was a devoted scrap booker and left her family volumes of treasures of photos and journaling that will be cherished. Emilee was cheerful, optimistic, friendly and an adventurer and gave inspiration to those to persevere through trials with faith.

Emilee’s greatest joy was her family and she participated in every activity she possibly could with them. She is survived by her loving husband, David, sons Brenton, Jonathan, and Nathan; parents Glen and Bonnie Baer Dolberg of Stockton, CA; brothers Daniel (Meggin), David, Paul (Felisa), Peter; and many nieces and nephews and David’s extended family.

A viewing will be held Sunday, March 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center at 3950 W. Cedar Hills, Drive, Cedar Hills, UT. The funeral will be on Monday, March 9, 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Viewing time will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. that morning prior to services. Internment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the Cedar Hills First Ward, Dr. Shehedah and Dr. Garner, Intermountain Health Care Hospice, and the staff at the Daily Herald who have been so caring.

Donations are gratefully accepted at Emilee’s medical account at US Bank 210 E. 700 S., Pleasant Grove, UT, 84062. Flowers may be sent to SereniCare Funeral Home, 12278 S. Lone Peak Parkway #103, Draper, UT 84020. Emilee wished for all to visit her blog and you can send condolences to www.emilee-ellis.blogspot.com.

Though it has been difficult at times to read Emilee's blog (because of her pain and struggles), I have appreciated being given a "window" into her valiant efforts to be strong and to "fight" to the finish. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Dolberg and Ellis family members and friends.

Dear Dolberg & Ellis Families,

I think many of us are in shock that Emilee has really passed on. At least I know I was as I read about it in yesterday's Daily Herald newspaper.

In 1979, our family moved into the same ward as the Dolbergs in Stockton, CA. At the time, I was only in my mid-teens and Emilee would have been just 7 years old, but I certainly do remember her. She of course comes from a very good, strong family, but what has always impressed me is that she was extremely cheerful and always did what was right.

It's been several years ago now that Emilee and David invited me and my wife Andrea to their home in Orem. I don't remember the occasion, but I do remember the kindness, consideration, and attention that they showed us.

Sometimes newspaper articles can embellish things just a little, but as I read this one and struggled to hold back the tears, I couldn't help but think that what was publised there was all true. Emilee certainly was an amazing person and everyone who knew her can certainly testify to that and much, much more.

As I get older, I find that I have more questions than answers and one of them is why we have to lose some of our best so early. The good news is that we really don't lose them at all, but are only separated from them for a short time. Even then her memory will live on in our hearts. I'm also confident that her family will always feel her presence near.

Thank you, God, for letting us know Emilee to a greater or lesser degree.
We're all better people for it.

To Emily's Dad and Mr. Ellis,
My son, Landon is a friend of Jonathan at school. There have been a couple of times when they have tried to get together after school to hang out, but it didn't work out. I just wanted you to know that Landon is very interested in being there for Jon, to hang out, do homework with after school and just help him to feel happy any way he can. Landon has a very compassionate heart.

I can't imagine having to leave my children on this earth and worrying about the choices they would make without their mother's influence. I don't know Emily personally, but from the little I have read on this blog, I know that she loved her family more than anything. Your boys are welcome here any time. We live close to the school, so it's convenient, if they need a ride home or just somewhere to land for a while.
With Love,
Heather Fillmore

My husband and I were temple workers in Oakland the day Emilee and Davied were married. Previously, my husband had been a counselor to David's father during his calling as stake president in San Rafael, so we knew the Ellises well and were pleased to meet Emilee's father and know that ths was going to be a wonderful union. Through friends and Christmas cards with the Ellises, we have known of Emilee's struggle and have anticipated this eventual conclusion. We send our prayers to David and the boys and our hope that they ill be comforted by the memories and the many friends who share in this difficult time.

Our prayers and love are with your family, and we hope you are doing as well as possible, considering what you've just been through. We'd like to invite you four boys (well, I guess three boys and their Dad) over for dinner and a family home evening in a couple of weeks.

I just wanted to tell this sweet Ellis Family that I have been thinking of you all and wondering how you have been. I often think of Emilee, even though I never even talked to her, but I am so impressed with David and the kids. You all are such strong, amazing, and sweet people. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Please know that the Lord will comfort you all. Thank you for allowing me to care for Emilee the couple of times that I did, it was a true honor.
